The Peugeot story starts in the 19th century with, among other products, the manufacture of pepper mills and coffee grinders. More than 160 years later, Peugeot mills and grinders are still used in the most famous chefs' kitchens. Peugeot mills have mechanisms are specially designed to suit the nature of individual spices. There is a different mechanism for pepper, salt, wet sea-salt, nutmeg, chili and spices. Hence, the Peugeot grinders enable the spices to express fully their tastes, their aromas and their flavours. The mechanism for Peugeot pepper mills has a double row of helicoid teeth which guides the pepper grains and blocks them while they are being crushed. This unique system enables the fineness of the grind to be varied simply by turning the button on the mill: from ground pepper to powdered pepper. The pepper mechanism has the advantage of a patented process which protects the steel from corrosion while keeping its sharpness and its resistance to wear. The Peugeot salt mill mechanism is designed to grind coarse dry sea salt. Made of stainless steel, it is protected from salt corrosion.
