Founded in 1475 by Simon de Thysac, La Rochère glass-works is the oldest glass-works in operation in France and one of the oldest in the world. La Rochère manufactures a wide variety of glass products, but at present we stock only a selection of pressed glass items, which are produced on multi-mould presses. A drop of precisely calibrated glass falls into a mould, a feeder is used to press the glass into the mould and the moulded item is then cooled by driven air. The Bee (in French "Abeille") design glasses are a real classic and you may well have come across them if you have spent time in France. Bees are of course a Napoleonic symbol and the design was apparently taken from an item in a Paris museum.
