Ideal Glasses for Wine and Champagne
To appreciate at its best the aroma and taste of fine champagne and wine you should always drink it from good quality crystal glasses. For wine, ensure that the opening to your glass is smaller than the widest point of the bowl as this helps to keep in the aromas. A glass with a large bowl is normally used for bold red wines that have a powerful aroma and a narrower glass is used for lighter, white wines as they concentrate the more delicate smells.
Champagne is best served in long stemmed flutes or tulip shaped glasses. This is because this type of glass enhances the flow of bubbles and concentrates the aromas of the wine. To add that additional touch at parties and on special occasions, serve champagne in crystal glasses as the rougher surface of the glass means that more bubbles form on the sides.

Our Serving Guide
To appreciate the smell and taste of champagne at its best, follow these simple guidelines:
- Always serve at a temperature of about 7°C by placing the unopened bottle in a bucket of half ice and half water for about 30 minutes. Alternatively, you could put the bottle into a refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours, but never the freezer.
- Take off only as much of the foil from the bottle as is required to remove the twisted wire hood. It is a wise precaution to keep your thumb over the cork at this point to avoid it popping out.
- Hold the bottle away from you at a 45 degree angle and ease the cork out by turning the bottle rather than the cork. It should come out with a gentle sigh rather than a pop.
- Wipe the neck with a clean cloth then pour about an inch of wine into each glass. When the froth has settled, top up each glass to about two-thirds full. This will prevent any frothing over.
